Partner: Mary Almon (b. 6 November 1819, d. before 1858)
Biography
- Birth: Enoch E. Hill was born in 1817 in Barren Co., Kentucky.2,3
- Note: He was orphaned in 1818. His first guardian was Maximillian Haley (Barren Co. Order Book, December 1818). In April 1828 he was bound to Nelson Hill (uncle) to learn the business of farming until age 21. In October of 1828 Nelson Hill was appointed his guardian.
Maximillian Haley, guardian for Enoch and his siblings, was the son of Henry Hailey. Henry also had a son named Berryman. The Haileys are found in the Barren County (Kentucky) Order Books, beginning in 1806, where Henry Hailey purchases 400 acres of land (p. 2). In Book 4 we find Henry Hailey deceased - his will is proved in Aug 1817 by oaths of Reuben B, Stockton, Achilles H. Jameson, executors Berryman Hailey, Maximillian Haley and William Murphy. In October of 1817, younger siblings (?) for whom Max is appointed guardian are Julia Haley, Patrick Rivers Haley, and John G. Haley.
In 1816, Maximillian Haley proves the will of Lawrance Fitzjerral (Barren Co. Order Book 4 - p. 131)
Henry Haley was active in the Mt. Tabor Church (see notes 6-2). This church was the "mother" church to all Baptist curches in the Barren Co. area. It was formed in 1798 with 7 members and 3 elders. Nelson Hill might have been a member of this church. It is in what is now Green Co.
Maximillian Hill's sisters' wedding dates can be found in the Barren Co. Marriage records.
See notes 6-6 for church information on Polly Sample, Mary Sample, David Sample, and Henry Haley.

I have no firm leads on these sons (see notes 5-7ff.)
In 1870 there is an Adam Vancil living with Enoch Hill..Adam is the first cousin of Enoch's son-in-law, Anselm Batson....in Makanda Twp. Jackson Co. Illinois. There is a daughter Adelia (?) age 1 month, and Adam Vancil age 9 and Rebecca Reed (?) age 28, a domestic. This name might connect to J REEDER who was living in the HILL household in 1860.

- Marriage: She married Enoch E. Hill, son of Robert Russell Hill and Margaret Angle, on 2 February 1840 in Stewartsville, Posey Co., Indiana.2
- Name-Marr: As of 2 February 1840,her married name was Mary Hill.
- Death: Mary Almon died before 1858 in Kentucky.
- Note: There is another Hill child, Rebecca HILL, same age as Ruth, living with John and Rebecca Almon in 1860. This would be Mary Almon Hill's brother and sister-in-law. They are in Posey Co. Robb Twp. On the next page, Ruth HILL is living with the grandparents, Thomas and Ruth Almon. A few pages later Eliza Hill (Nancy E.?) is living with Jno Almond and family.
Theory - Mary died before 1858. Enoch remarried in Sept. 1858 to Dorcas McAlister. Mary's two youngest children, Sallie and John, were born in Kentucky, so I assume that Mary died in Kentucky.
There is a record of a Mary Hill receiving a land grant in Henderson Co. Kentucky, which is right across the river from Posey Co. Indiana, 19 acres, Book 44, on 8-12-1854, Ohio River Watercourse!
