  • Residence: She lived in 1860 in California. She moved there to live with her Uncle and Aunt Samuel Miller and Louisa Cooke Miller.4
  • Note: According to Lindsey descendant Catherine Swindell Doughty, Daught and her brother John were supporters of the Confederacy but their father Robert Logan Lindsey was for the Union. Daught's brother John is the one who went to meet her in New York before she died.5
  • Note: Former Tennesseean Sends Funds to Aid South's Poor
    Watson M. Cooke of Cooke, Little & Company, Nashville, is in receipt of a letter from Miss Maria L. Lindsey of Stockton, Calif. (formerly of Putnam Co. Tenn.) containing two drafts amounting to $854 to be distributed among the suffering poor of the South.
    Miss Lindsay (sic) is entitled to and will receive the blessings of many poor widows and orphan children for her kind and timely remembrance of them whilst far from her own native state.6,7

    Maria (Daught) was returning from California by ship, around Cape Horn, and contracted an illness aboard ship. She was ill when she arrived in New York City, and died there.4
