All the families of a neighborhood collected on a convenient spot, built as many cabins as were necessary for their accomodation and enclosed the whole by a stockade which was entered by two strong gates. From these stations, the men went out in companies to
    cultivate their farms, a part laboring and a part standing as sentinels or guards. in 1784.4

  • Note: He wrote a letter on this date to his sister Susan Talley Black, asking her to ask Uncle Robert (Robert M. Talley, Dennis Tally's brother) to help him get transfered into Foster's Company. This is a strong indication that James was living with Uncle Robert before he enlisted. on 20 February 1865.4
  • Note: He came to Floresville TX because his sister Betty Black was there. Also his brother Robert lived there and was made a deputy by his brother-in-law Billy Black, according to James' grandson Claude Talley Sr. These are three siblings of Dennis Butler Tally.4
  • Marriage: He married Martha Ann Gentry on 9 December 1866 in DeQueen, Sevier County, Arkansas.4
