James Butler Talley¹

• Birth: James Butler Talley was born circa 1821 in Butler County, Alabama.^2,3,4
• Note: One researcher believes that James Butler is the son of Nathan Talley Jr. for the following reasons:
  1. James' son from his first marriage went to live with Robert Anthony Talley in Gonzales Co. Texas after his father's death. This infers that Robert was his uncle.
  2. James Alexander Talley's wife died young, and James took his son (James Butler Talley's grandson, Robert Coats Talley), to live with relatives in Gonzales Co. Later, Robert Coats Talley lived with Robert Anthony's son, James Clemons Talley, and worked on his ranch. in 1822.
• Note: Other researchers believe that James Butler is the son of Caleb Talley, Nathan Jr.s brother.
• Note: Still another researcher believes James is the son of John Tally who died in Montgomery Co. Alabama about 1842.
• Marriage: He married Susan Buffington, daughter of Peter Buffington and Susannah Scurry, on 28 January 1841 in Lowndes County, Alabama, the marriage was performed by James H. Curtis, Minister. McCown Book says they were married in 1842.⁵

• Birth: William Scott Mullen was born in 1755 in Hanover County, Virginia.

• Death: He died in 1806 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina, at age ~51. The DAR application of Mary Sneed Slaughter gives his date of death as 1800.³

• Note: Some sources have his parents as John and Susannah (Poindexter) Sneed, of Hanover County, VA. "The following entry was found in an old Bible which originally belonged to Robert Sharp Sneed (b. 23 Jan 1760) and which was in the possession of a descendant when it was copied in 1941: Zachariah Sneed son of John and Susannah Sneed of Hanover County married Martha daughter of John Nance by whom he had eight children (see Person view). He was a loving Husband, a Tender Father, and a kind Neighbour. He did 7 July 1783 aged 46 years).
