    1. James' son from his first marriage went to live with Robert Anthony Talley in Gonzales Co. Texas after his father's death. This infers that Robert was his uncle.
    2. James Alexander Talley's wife died young, and James took his son (James Butler Talley's grandson, Robert Coats Talley), to live with relatives in Gonzales Co. Later, Robert Coats Talley lived with Robert Anthony's son, James Clemons Talley, and worked on his ranch. in 1822.
  • Note: Other researchers believe that James Butler is the son of Caleb Talley, Nathan Jr.s brother.
  • Note: Still another researcher believes James is the son of John Tally who died in Montgomery Co. Alabama about 1842.
  • Marriage: He married Susan Buffington, daughter of Peter Buffington and Susannah Scurry, on 28 January 1841 in Lowndes County, Alabama, the marriage was performed by James H. Curtis, Minister. McCown Book says they were married in 1842.5
