Henry H. Dinkins1,2

Pedigree Link
M, #609, b. 1830, d. 16 March 1863

Partner: Rebecca Amy Stewart (b. 1824, d. 1862)

Biography

  • Birth: Henry H. Dinkins was born in 1830 in Kentucky.1
  • Note: Son Elvis's death certificate gives father's name as Harlon or Harson or something.

Civil War Record - Sargeant in 6th Missouri Cavalry (Union) Co., G - perhaps
    buried near Mississippi River

from Vada, aunt of Dwight Dinkins (dwightddinkins@comcast.net)

I have written that Uncle Eldon, my Dad's brother told me this: The Dinkins came to Barry Co., Missouri about the time of the Civil War from Bretleth Co., (BREATHITT) Kentucky . One girl Sarah. Twins Henry and Harry, Bill was in Hamilton Texas and one unnamed. Harry lived around Purdy and I visited his daughter Madge and Maryellen and son Bill. I have some correspondence from some of Madge's relatives when I worked on this geneology at one time from Colorado. Henry's mother died in childbirth while the father was away at war . Henry's father was killed in the Civil War in the Union Army and buried close to the Mississippi River. Henry was raise by the Davis family, I have written down. Another place I have that the twins were raised by Aunt Lindy Smith east of Purdy. The class I took said you need to confirm info 3 times to prove it correct. Other stuff I have written down not confirmed; the father Henry Hillary Dinkins, Co D Captain Woods Co , Kan Rangers. Harry's name may be Elvis Harrison Dinkins my cousin insisted when he gave me a tin type picture of him so confirm the correct things. I have Henry Hillary born 1830 and died 1863 and married Rebecca.

(There is a Malinda Smith, wife of Thomas Smith, living in Barry Co., in 1860, 1870, 1880 - the Dinkins children did not live with her during census years.)

In 1850, there is a William C. Dinkins and Lucinda and family living in Allen Co., Kentucky. In 1860, William is deceased, and this family is living in Reynolds Co., Missouri? Is William a brother to Henry? Where is Henry in 1850? Verna Dinkins (researcher) believes these 2 men are from 2 different lines. One source says that William is a son of John J. Dinkins of Sumner Co., TN

In 1840, no Dinkens/Denkins in Kentucky, but some in Sumner Co., Tennessee, neighbor to Allen Co., Kentucky, William (2 of his children were born in Tennessee) and J.J. (age 60-70?) and J.W. (age 20-30). John J. Dinkins is in Sumner Co., Tennessee in the 1830, with a bunch of kids.
  • Note: A child, J W Dinkins, was born 12 Nov 1858 (male) to James Dinkins (b. TN) and Lark (b. TN). Might this father be a brother to Henry Dinkins?

a child, J W Thornton (male) was born 09 Apr 1856 to Willaim Thornton and MJ Dinkins. Might this mother be a sister to Henry Dinkins? This mother's name was Martha and she married Mr. Thornton 07 Sep 1854. They both were age 26, she was born in TN, he was born in NC

More Dinkins marriages in Notes, 5-44.3
  • Marriage: He married Rebecca Amy Stewart.
  • Residence: He lived in 1854 in Simpson Co., Kentucky.4
  • Residence: He lived in 1860 in Reynolds Co., Missouri.5
  • Milit-Beg: He began military service on 18 August 1861 with the 6th Missouri Cavalry (Union) Co. G, rank of private, mustered 28 Oct 1881 in Rolla, Missouri.6
  • Death: He died on 16 March 1863 in Helena, Arkansas, at age ~33 in a military hospital, of pneumonia.7
  • Note: "I have written that Uncle Eldon, my Dad's brother told me this: The Dinkins came to Barry Co., Missouri about the time of the Civil War from Bretleth Co., (BREATHITT) Kentucky . One girl Sarah. Twins Henry and Harry, Bill was in Hamilton Texas and one unnamed. Harry lived around Purdy and I visited his daughter Madge and Maryellen and son Bill.
