The document refers to a previous deed that was witnessed by James Vandever. The document states: James Vandever, one of the subscribing witnesses, is dead. This proves that he died before the date of this document, 25 Nov 1844. (Ephraim Berry is James' uncle, the brother of his mother Sally Berry Vandiver).²
