John C. Pemberton's army on July 4, 1863, at Vicksburg and was released on parole.In addition to the letters, the Cardwell collection includes a parole oath signed by Thomas in 1866.2

They were organized at Fayetteville in June of 1847; James enrolled on June 9, 1847 at Fayetteville, Arkansas ( two weeks before the end of the war). They marched to Ft. Smith, a distance of 60 miles, where they arrived on the 13th of June. The Company also was called Company F, Ark. Battalion, Infantry and Mounted Rifles. The Co. was mustered in on June 15, 1846 at Ft. Smith, Arkansas and mustered out on June 23, 1847 at Carmargo, Mexico.4
- Marriage: He married Mary Jane Beal, daughter of Peter Beal and Elizabeth Painter, on 11 October 1849 in Washington Co., Arkansas.5
- Note: There are 2 children who might belong to James and Mary but I do not find them in the census in 1860 or 1870. They are Isadora Henry b. 07 Aug 1865 and William Daniel Henry b. 19 Jun 1852.

In 1880, he lives next door to the family of Stephen PEERSON. Is this the family of his 3rd wife?
There were two James Henry's living in Washington Co. Arkansas in 1850, 1860. Our James is 17 years younger than the other, but some researchers have gotten them confused.

There is an Albert G. Henry who marries Lenora A. Ross 16 Aug 1891 in Muskogee, Indian Territory. This probably is not the right Albert Henry.
There is an Albert Henry in Ouchita Co. Arkansas in 1900, married to Carrie, with children Arthur and 4 daughters whose names are unreadable. Arthur might be living in Logan Co. Arkansas in 1920, widowed (?) - says married, but no wife present - with 4 daughters.

- Death: She died before 1897. She predeceased her father James Henry, who died in 1910. Also, her husband remarried in 1897, which puts her death between 1893 and 1896.3
- Note: Her father James Henry's will stated that she predeceased him (he died in 1910).
He left her children only $1.00 each; however, to the children of another deceased daughter, Roxie, he left one fifth of his estate!3
